Criminal Justice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 9
Criminal Justice - Essay Example Nevertheless there are those who feel violated once their rights are ignored, including in safety situations (Barnett, 54). The main objective of the public order advocates is to protect the law abiding citizen in the society from harm. Such individuals believe that under certain conditions that involve a criminal threat to public order, the societyââ¬â¢s interest ought to take precedence over the individual rights (Barnett, 54). In my opinion, individual rights are important as one can have their individual rights and still keep safety in a society. Individual rights are constitutional and are assured to the citizens under the constitution. Constitutional rights are taken to be basic rights but, not as absolute rights. For instance, one has his freedom of religion unless his religious belief is infringing on the rights of other citizens. For instance, if ones religious beliefs allow him to kill someone as a sacrifice to his God, then his freedom of religion can be restricted (Barnett, 59). Ever since 11 September 2001 there has been a lot of questions on individual rights versus public safety. The Patriot Act has an effect on foreign travelers more than anybody else as it denies due process to the foreigner visitor. This act is not constitutional since the American Government is supposed to give due process to everybody. Law enforcement bodies have to still get a warrant to conduct searches but probable cause is more lenient than before (Barnett, 59). Majority of the people have a belief that individual rights ought to be sacrificed for the safety of the public. However, this is a dangerous move since it insinuates that the government is not supposed to abide by the procedures and policies that are set by the constitution. The import of this is that the government can then become corrupt. The rights of an individual will trump public safety but a peaceful society can still be sustained with no denial of

Health Care Reform in the United States Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Health Care Reform in the United States - Essay Example Besides this, the government can roll back on tax cuts for individuals earning high amounts. Besides this, there has been talk of increasing health insurance access to people who fall within the low income brackets. (Democrats, 2008) There are various suggestions that have been made about how health care within the US can be reformed. This can be dome through increased budgetary allocations. Others have suggested that there should be introduction of free market reforms. They believe that if health care is operated like any other market in the economy; where there is consideration of all the necessary market forces then it will be well on its way to proper recovery. Advocates for increased government spending in health care also adhere to the belief that there ought to be universal coverage. These advocates plan on increasing the governments' role in health care through provision of tax credits. This will be done for poor families that may not have the finances to purchase insurance coverage on their own. Besides this, there is also a problem with the provision of health services itself. Therefore advocates for these heath care reforms believe that the government should give small businesses tax credits such that they can have the ability to provide health insurance coverage to their workers. This would mean that more people are liable to health insurance coverage. Besides thi... The burden of managing this type of health care reform will be placed in the hands of some of the employers who are expected to play their part in contributing to these reforms. Supporters of more government involvement in health care also believe that there should be more tax cuts for Americans getting more than a quarter of a million dollars every month. These advocates believe that other countries in the first world provide universal health care and so can the US. This has been true for many countries even regardless of the fact that they allocate fewer finances to health care than the US does. (Green Party, 2008) On the other hand, advocates for free market solutions within the field of health care claim that the health care system in the United States has been crippled by numerous bureaucracies. They believe that the health care administration is too complex and the government spends too much catering for the needs of the players in the industry. Consequently, there is a need to make sure that these past mistakes are not repeated again. Advocates for these reforms believe that health care should not involve government mandates any more.It should be noted that the main advocates for free market reforms are the Republican candidates while their opponents; the democrats believe in universal health coverage. Other issues in health care highlighted by the Republican candidates include provision of incentives in insurance markets that will allow better treatment of chronic diseases. Adherents to these reforms also believe that there should be expansion of savings accounts created for health purpo ses. These account programs should also be made more efficient and

Morocco Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Morocco - Essay Example According to Alami (1), the type of education offered to graduates has left them ill-equipped for job access in the market. Additionally, Alami claims that the level of education offered to students depends entirely on the economic status of their parents. In relation to this assertion, it is apparent that the students lack equal chances of succeeding in Morocco. Despite all these, it is evident that over 6.5 million students have the chance of joining colleges after completing their schooling at elementary and high schools. In addition to this, 600,000 students are registered in higher education. From this, it is apparent that the number of unqualified graduates will increase significantly from the current number. The rate of unemployment among the Moroccans is very high. In tandem with this assertion, Aljazeera (1) claims that the unemployment rate in Morocco is 9.1%nationally, 16% for graduates and 31.4% for citizens below the age of 34 years. The poor quality of education offered to the graduates has contributed to them lacking access to job opportunities. In other words, the job market is very hostile to the Moroccan graduates. Corruption also plays a part in the high rate of unemployment in Morocco. According to Alami (1), money and network are very essential for one to get a job in Morocco. Additionally, the rate of unemployment among Moroccans is also as a result of high number of dropouts which is as a result of language shift. Issues In Researching and Developing Media Projects Research Paper
Issues In Researching and Developing Media Projects - Research Paper Example The portrayal of multicultural aspect of European society commenced during the 1960s in Britain and France with the key motive of creating awareness among the migrant populations regarding the host societyââ¬â¢s customs and policies. However, the contemporary media, has a completely reformed agenda, that of assimilating and integrating the migrant and multicultural populations within the predominantly white communities and cater to their needs and demands at par with those of their counterparts. The European mass media, today, through its multicultural approach, largely aims to eliminate or reduce the cultural misunderstandings through representation of culturally diverse communities, as opposed to the historical approach, of merely educating the migrants about the way of life of their host societies. It seeks to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of race, culture or social backgrounds of the individuals and encourage peaceful co-existence through intercultural exchange (Alle yne, 2010). This paper seeks to explore the extent to and manner in which multiculturalism is driven by advertising in different media. For the purpose of this study, various forms of mass media i.e. advertisements, books and films have been analyzed to understand the effect it has on promoting and depicting multiculturalism. The advertisements of popular brands, such as McDonalds, American Airlines, and Dove Real Beauty Campaign among others; the book ââ¬ËLondonstaniââ¬â¢ by Gautam Malkani; and the film ââ¬ËSomers Townââ¬â¢ directed by Shane Meadows are studied, analyzed and discussed to gain a broader understanding of the subject. It concludes that the depiction of multicultural ideologies in the mass media, and advertising has facilitated a greater assimilation of culturally diverse communities and has fostered their identification as significant strata of society which is also a lucrative business

The Body Ritual Among the Nacirema Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Body Ritual Among the Nacirema - Essay Example In such cases, though certain traits of any ritual differ from class to class and communal segment to another segment, performing this ritual often are based on a common metanarrative. Factually, the symbolism as well as the roles of the participants is determined by individual interests and communal interests in the ritual. One such American (or Nacirema ritual, in Horace Minerââ¬â¢s term) ritual is the eating ritual. Indeed Minerââ¬â¢s hoax anthropological article ââ¬Å"Body Ritual among the Naciremaâ⬠deals with the question whether the American obsession with the cleanliness of human is justifiable or irrational. While parodying the American body ritual from an ethnocentric perspective, Miner clarifies his side by quoting Malinowski ââ¬Å"Looking from far and above, from our high places of safety in the developed civilization, it is easy to see all the crudity and irrelevance of magicâ⬠(Miner, ). Meanwhile Miner explores deep into the fact whether modern anthro pologists are aware of the dichotomy between scientific knowledge of a ritual practiced by a community and the ethnocentric bias of research. When he uses the term ââ¬Å"configurationâ⬠or ââ¬Å"styleâ⬠, he essentially criticizes the modern trends of perceiving a culture from a Eurocentric perspective.... Indeed the sense of individuality is greatly contributed to by a memberââ¬â¢s corporeal or bodily existence in the society, that is, to a great extent can be considered as ââ¬Å"one body, one individualâ⬠(existentialism). This attitude to oneââ¬â¢s self highly determines their habit of eating in groups. Also this sense of individuality has a great role in the segregation of the society into the smallest functional groups that are mostly similar to modern family. The ââ¬Å"one body, one individualâ⬠motive also shapes their taste in food. Sense of Individuality and Body in Shaping the Rituals The underlying grand principle of individuality is to sustain the body, therefore, to sustain the individual through rituals and ceremonies. Each of the functional segments like modern family has commonly one or two shrines where the members participate in the rituals. Often members of a number of families gather together in domestic and commercial shrines to take part in the b elly-ritual or eating ritual. Generally the laymen of the Nacirema do not have any specific shrine, whereas there are commercial shrines for people. Symbolism of the Eating Ritual While performing the eating ritual, the Nacirema perform some other rituals i.e. hand-washing as a process of purifying the evil, offering-vases washing, etc. Generally the Naciremans take two types of liquids: holy liquids and normal liquid. They take the normal liquid as a part of their livings. But they occasionally take the holy liquids in order to get temporal relief from the adversaries of reality. Reportedly a number of the Naciremans are found to depend excessively on the holy liquids. One of the mentionable eating rituals of Nacirema is to have granular and solid meals. The Naciremans show a tendency to classify

Unit ii assesment Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Unit ii assesment - Coursework Example ure of an organization starts with the founders of the company and thus it flows from management downwards and it becomes acquired by new people joining the company which forms a habit of the organization. Corporate culture can be subdivided into major constituencies such as the customers, investors, government and the community and methods of operation styles such as risk taking, innovation conservative among others. A good and healthy culture increases the productivity of a company but an unhealthy culture decreases the growth of a company. A company with a healthy culture makes the employee feel as part of the company, they work as a team to help in the overall success of the company. A successful company motivates their employees to increase their productivity and level commitment which improves the quality of their products and services while an unhealthy corporate culture makes their employees feel like individuals who tend to work for their paychecks and thus not go an extra mile this leads to the failure of goals attainment of the project. For a successful project to be achieved there is need for a clear explanation and sharing of the vision of the company to everyone in the company. ââ¬Å"Let your vision for the company becomes their vision for the companyâ⬠(Malley, 2000). A well defined vision motivates the workers to understand their roles and what to do in order to help in the achievement of the set objectives or goals. But a poor defined vision or a company with no vision is reactive and will seldom lead to project failures. A corporate culture that values equality will lead to successful projects since all employees will be treated equally irrespective of their gender, relations and ethnicity. If the company is a family business the bloodlines should be irrelevant and also no favoritism for this will form barriers to success. In Oââ¬â¢ Malleys et alââ¬â¢s article on How to Create a Winning Culture, it states that ââ¬Å"showing favoritism in the workplace
